I made a commitment to follow Christ when I was in elementary school. When I was in junior high, I began to learn that being a Christian was not just going to church and an occasional prayer at bedtime. I began to learn that a Christian was an imitator of Christ, meaning I needed to learn to imitate the life, actions, and attitudes of Christ. Since then, I have been learning more and more about what Christ means when He says, "Follow me."
My goal is to live day by day and to serve God each day in "speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity" (1 Timothy 4:13). That is one hard standard to live up to. And only with God's strength and grace can I begin to try.
I do not know what I will be doing once I am out of school. However, I know my future is held by God, and that His plan for me is beyond any I could ever imagine. "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord. 'Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. And you will come to me, call on me and pray to me and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart'" (Jeremiah 29:11-13). With that promise, I have little fear about what is to come. For now, I will continue to do what I love and will continue to follow God's voice. I know that I am not happy when I am not 100% God's, so I will seek Him daily.
Back in Houston, to say I am involved in my church is a gross understatement. I graduated from the college prep school housed there, worked in the children's ministry, and am now employed for the summer in the Junior High ministry. Almost every day I spend at home I am on the church's campus for some reason or another. The church has over 22,000 members and is pastored by Dr. H. Edwin Young.
The junior highers that I work with are awesome and I am so priveledged to be allowed to know them. I hope they know, whether I am with them or in Missouri, or even in England, I love them and am praying for them.
