Hurricane Rita - We Dodged the Bullet

Kelly and I went to hardware store and bought plywood sheets 9/20.
SBHS released students from class at noon on 9/21.
Kelly and I boarded up his house and mine on 9/22.  Trimmed some of the lower hanging branchs of trees near the roof of the house.  After our homes were basically done, went to Howard Dierking's and helped finish up his home.  Kelly even wore a nail apron and posed for a picture with a hard-hat on.  See Kelly's Blog
Final yard pickup and storage of little things.  Water, food, ice, lanterns, batteries all ready to go by early afternoon 9/23.

We live on a very quite street.  There was even less activity than usual.  Most of the neighbors were elsewhere as we waited for the storm.

We waited for the winds to roar, the rain to pound down, and the power to go off.  And we waited, and waited.  Finally went to bed thinking it would become a wild and stormy night.

Morning of 9/24 woke up to a good wind and light sprinkle of rain.  Rita did a good job of clearing the trash out of the trees.

Needless to say, after all the buildup and hype the storm was a bit of a happy disappointment.  An afternoon thundershower has produced more damage than this storm.
